Small Scale Wind Turbine for Yacht and Off-Grid Use from Marlec
Small wind turbines have long been a popular method for maintaining and charging batteries onboard cruising yachts. Here at Yachtbits we have concentrated on one brand, the Rutland brand manufacturerd in the UK by Marlec Engineering.
We have sold other brands in the past, but we have found that the Rutland range are probably the best on the market, certainly the best value, and as such we no longer offer other brands. We have also found the Marlec offer outstanding product support and spares availability.
Starting at the bottom end of the range, the Rutland 504 features a 500mm blade diameter with a safety ring between the blade tips. This ideal for maintaining a single battery used for engine start and bilge pumps etc.
Moving up a size to the Rutland 914i. This unit features a 910mm diameter blade assembly for harnessing much more power, upto 19amps at 12vdc. Ideal for the blue water cruiser, or the coastal cruiser who prefers a bit more self sufficiency.
And finally the top of the range Rutland 1200, which features a 1200mm blade assembly. This one is for Liveaboards, Narrowboats and Long distance Cruisers requiring higher charge rates. This unit can generate upto 35Amps at 12VDC in the right winds.
